Position Title:
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) for our HeidelbergCement Technology Center Company (HTC)
Requirements: Bachelors or Masters in Engineering with emphasis on theoretical and conceptual methods, geology or minerology. Candidates may be new graduates or have up to 2 years work experience. A GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or greater is required for entering this program.
Organization: Direct reporting is to the manager at the HTC Allentown, Pennsylvania office. Day-to-day reporting is to the Mentor, located at the plant of assignment. For special projects, reporting is to the Sponsor of the special project.
Locations of Plants: Alabama, Alberta (Canada), British Columbia (Canada), California, Pennsylvania, Texas, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland and New York
Position Description: The job title at any plant assignment is EIT. This is a one-year training program designed to provide the technical foundation for future career development.
The successful candidate will assume various roles for periods that may range from one to four months. These roles may be in the plant's Production, Process, Maintenance and Quality Control departments as well as off-site special projects. The objective is to acquire technical knowledge of all of the main technical functions on an overview level, and a more in-depth knowledge for selected function(s).
The main technical functions are given below:
Production: manufacturing operations, optimization, production accounting, equipment utilization, inventory control, performance measurement and reporting and environmental compliance.
Process: capacity, flow sheets, process survey, instrumentation, process monitoring and analysis, process modeling and the process control system.
Maintenance: equipment characteristics and layout, equipment repair and preventive maintenance programs and spare parts.
Quality Control: material and fuel quality analysis, quality control parameter targets and laboratory test procedures.
International Assignment: Candidates interested in this program must be "internationally-minded" and capable of adjusting to various cultures. An international assignment of 4-6 weeks in Europe or elsewhere where our parent company, HeidelbergCement AG, operates may be part of your training.
The primary responsibility of the EIT is to achieve the goals of the EIT Program, while satisfying the requirements of the cement plant. The goals of the EIT Program are:
- Familiarization with cement plant operations
- Fundamental knowledge of cement manufacturing functions
- Development of key technical skills
Upon successful completion of the training program, future opportunities with Lehigh Cement Company will be discussed depending upon the interests of the individual and the needs of Lehigh Cement Company. The possibilities include remaining at the same plant at which the EIT Program was served, assignment to another cement plant, or assignment to the HTC-Allentown, Pennsylvania office.
