Lehigh Cement GroupALLENTOWN- Lehigh Cement Company, headquartered in Allentown, PA, unifies its cement activities across North America under the Lehigh banner, as of February 1, 2002. Helmut Erhard, President and CEO, explained, "We selected Lehigh Cement Company as the common name because of its outstanding reputation and history. The time is right for all our cement companies to combine under one identity for North America." Therefore, affiliated cement-producing companies, such as Calaveras in California, Tilbury in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia and Inland in the Canadian prairie provinces, also adopt Lehigh into their legal names.

Also on February 1, 2002, Lehigh Cement Company changes its name from Lehigh Portland Cement Company, which no longer includes the word portland. Mr. Erhard commented, "The word portland dates back to the invention of the modern hydraulic cement process over 160 years ago and we no longer need to include the designation. Although Lehigh Cement Company's core product is portland cement, we provide a variety of products and services to the construction market. Ready mixed concrete, aggregates, concrete beams, pipe and block, blended cements, colored masonry and other custom products make up our full range of offerings."

Lehigh Cement Company now markets all of its cement in North America, approximately 12 million metric tons annually, under one name and logo. Lehigh Cement Company's 13 cement plants span the United States an Canada, serving markets in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southeast and Florida, Texas, California, the Pacific Northwest, as well as British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Lehigh Cement Company traces its origins back to 1897, opening its first plant in Ormrod, PA. By siting new plants on significant limestone reserves or by acquiring plants and other cement companies, Lehigh Cement Company grew over the decades and is now one of the largest cement companies in North America.

To accompany its new name, Lehigh Cement Company adopts a new logo that reflects its connection with one of the world leaders in the construction and materials business, HeidelbergCement AG. "It was appropriate to take the opportunity to design a new logo for Lehigh Cement Company, which would distinguish us to the public and in the marketplace," said Mr. Erhard. "We needed something fresh that respected the past, but looked to the future as well. We also wanted to clearly affirm that we belong to a strong and globally operating company, HeidelbergCement AG. This led to our new logo, which signifies a combination of great tradition, confident strength and solid growth."

In addition to cement, Lehigh Cement Company supplies the building industry with other construction materials from 132 ready mix concrete plants, 32 concrete products plants and 73 aggregate and sand quarries. "Our materials and concrete operations, which serve specific geographic markets, will continue to use their brands and legal names, but will add the reference to HeidelbergCement AG in their logos," added Mr. Erhard One of the leading cement and construction materials companies in the world, HeidelbergCement AG operates in 50 countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa. Lehigh Cement Company's nearly US$2 billion per year in sales contributes significantly to HeidelbergCement AG's annual sales of close to US$ 7 billion.

Lehigh Cement Company, along with its affiliated companies, is a major North American manufacturer of cement, concrete and construction materials that employs about 6,000 people in the United States and Canada.
